Combining different hardware in a network

[Q] What will happen if I combine hardware from different manufacturing companies in my network?

[A] Good question. Many attempts have been made to determine if you will experience different levels of performance based on "mixing and matching" network hardware made by different companies.

All modern networking hardware components will have slightly different specifications based on the primary features supported by that piece of hardware, but basic network connectivity and performance will be at least to the same minimum standard.

There will be some equipment that performs better overall because of the quality of engineering and components that went into the device.

Many installers choose to stay with matching components because of positive prior experience with that brand, and because it makes it slightly easier from a support standpoint when you deal with fewer hardware makers.

As a general rule, it will pretty much be a "trial and error" process when it comes to determining which component brands absolutely do not work well together.

CAT 5 Cable Company sells CAT 6, CAT 5E, and CAT 5 Patch and Crossover cables in 9 colors, custom fit to any length up to 328 feet.
